Views is kind of a catch-all for all the “other” genres of photography I shoot, including but not limited to street scenes, landscapes and cars. I’m drawn to the beautiful and interesting mostly, sometimes they’re in disguise. I live for documenting the world we love so much.
Where Light Meets dark
I’ve always been obsessed with the way the light hits certain objects and scenes and casts a new life onto them. Darkness has the same effect but in a drastically different way. Silhouettes, shadows, the lack of information to your eye. It leaves room for imagination. In cinema they say to shoot from the shadow side for a more dramatic effect, and I took that to heart.
for all things mundane yet beautiful
Open your eyes, there is beauty hidden in plain sight all around us but we choose to ignore it or simply walk right past it. As a photographer I can’t help but feel like part of my job is to capture the beauty others miss, like these flowers in vegas I’d bet someone has peed on. Most people would walk by these sidewalk flowers without a second thought, but the way the light hits them like their own spotlight makes me think that paying attention to the little things can have a big impact.
and don’t f*ck it up!
Sometimes you see a photo out in the wild and something takes over you where you just have to get a photo of it no matter what, and other times you see a photo and you freeze or pass by it because the process of getting out of your car and approaching seems to daunting. All the more reason to get out of your car and walk around or else you might miss even more beautiful mundanity.
Sometimes you spot a photo out in the wild and there are two courses of action that will flash through your mind, maybe, if you’re like me. Course one is to freeze or miss the shot completely by not stopping or having the courage to walk up to the scene. Course two is to take the photo. I’ve let course one stop me many times and it’s always a bummer. Pour one out for these fish I almost didn’t capture and for all the photos not taken due to fucking anxiety.
